The police in Jos, the plateau state capital have arrested a suspected ritualist who allegedly tried to tricked two children, Ahmed Mohammed Sani aged 6 and his brother Adamu Mohammed Sani 4 Jos to an unknown location. Parading the suspect by name Ibrahim Yahaya before newsmen in Jos, Plateau state Commissioner of Police Mr Greg Anyanting disclosed that the man was arrested after packaging the children in 50 Kg bag in his bid to take them a way. The police also recovered some charms that were in possession of the suspect.
According to him, the children were lucky to have survived the action because the kidnapper was no doubt taking them for ritual purposes.
The incident came as a surprise to residents of Jos as no cases such incidents had been recorded in the past.
The police commissioner said the suspect was napped courtesy of community policing. According to him, the suspected was arrested near the Angwan Rogo stream following information from the Angwan Rogo community who were suspicious about the movement of the culprit around the area.
The father of the Children Mohammed Sani told newsmen that his wife sent the children on errand with their elder sister to a near by house when the suspect approached them and took hold of the younger one.
Sani said after putting him in the sack the, senior sister ran back home and informed their mother who phone him and he quickly raised alarm.
He said the suspect was caught after a hot chase, adding that were it not for the soldiers on patrol in the area, the suspect would have escape. The suspect was subsequently taken to the Unguwar Rogo Police station.
However, the suspect who claimed to be a tailor by profession has denied the allegation of kidnapping, maintaining that he did not mean any harm to the children as he was only trying to settle a quarrel among the children
Confronted over the charms recovered from him, Yahaya who further claimed that he was suffering from a mental sickness, insisted that the charms were for his medication.
